Westfield – Hamburg Überseequartier

A large-scale glass canopy was constructed over Hamburg’s Überseequartier, based on a design by Werner Sobek Ingenieure, with node development by the Roschmann Group.

The roof covered the surrounding streets and public areas using 213 tonnes of glass. In total, 8,535 individually fabricated panes—ranging from triangular to pentagonal—formed the surface, allowing daylight in while providing weather protection.

The supporting structure consisted of 4,592 unique steel nodes, produced from 315 tonnes of raw material. Waste from the milling process was recycled back into alloy production. These nodes were linked by 8,994 steel rods, spanning a combined length of 7,500 metres, with around 6,000 welded connections.

Additional aluminium nodes and profiles acted as supports for the glazing. All components were coordinated through a parametric design process to achieve an efficient balance between structural stability, material use and overall transparency.
